William Morgans
« on: Thursday 21 March 13 13:43 GMT (UK) »
Researching 3G/Grandfather William Morgans,a Tailor of Llandissilio. Can't find any record of death, have many death "certs"of various William Morgans (Morgan)but alas to no avail. His Daughter Ruths' marriage certificate, of August 1862 states deceased. Were the Tailors of that time journey men(if that was the case he could have died anywhere).
              Regards, Gypo.

Was he alive in 1861 census?
If so, then window of time when  death occurred is quite narrow.

Journeyman was a term meaning sort of "qualified", rather than that they travelled around (I think)
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

census information is Crown Copyright from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

I think that a "journeyman" was someone who had served an apprenticship but had not qualified to call themselves a master tradesman. It was applied to many different trades,
Morgan in London.Brimmell in Gloucester.Truman in London and Norfolk.Spratt in London,Stroud,and U.S.A.Berriman in London,Cornwall,and Australia.Steer in London.Blackburn in Essex.

is this your Ruth in 1851?

Llandissilio H0107/2475 folio 226 pgs 18-19
Pheboe Morgan head mar 27 tailor's wife
Ruth dau 7
Martha dau 5
James son 2
Esther dau 2 months
all born Llandissilio

1861 shows Phoebe as widow RG9/4147 folio 87 pg 16

There's only one burial for a William Morgan showing in Llandissilio between the 2 census years, dated 24/2/1852, but there's no age given on the entry. It would tie in with this death reg
William Morgan march qtr 1852 Narberth vol 11a pg 378.

Working from the address on William's marriage cert, this looks to be his parents in 1841
Vronhaul, Llanfallteg HO107/1382/23 folio 5 pg 7
James Morgan 59 ag lab
Mary 50
Margt Adams  4
all born in county

Llanfallteg doesn't seem to be on the IGI and only marriages have been transcribed for FreeReg. This looks like Phoebe's baptism in a non-conformist church

 Many thanks Osprey,
This is the William Morgan i've been searching for.I've had a "Death Cert"for a William Morgan at that date, but unfortunately it was that of an infant,if i remember correctly the fathers name was also James Morgan. At the Parents address in 1841 there was a Margaret Adams,Williams' wife was Pheboe Morgan nee Adams.
    Once again,Many thanks.
