Parduvine Farm - BORTHWICK / DONALDSON
« on: Wednesday 08 June 05 01:21 BST (UK) »
I am researching the Borthwick / Donaldson Families.

In 1778 - 1782 John Borthwick was a Labourer at Parduvine Farm. He is then a labourer at Dalkeith in 1784.

His spouse is Margaret Donaldson but cannot find where they married. I have to this stage 4 children
Janet
John
James
George.

Duncan Donaldson & Janet Dods are the parents of Margaret. Any help would really be great.

Would you by any chance have an Isabella Borthwick married to a Robert Aitken in your research.  I am trying to locate them

Thanks

Hi Sharleen,

Can you give me some dates and I will check in all the census from 1841. Also an idea of the area.

Hi Lee

I have a date for Roberts son George of 1828.  He married a Janet Cairns in 8 July 1851 in St Cuthberts, Edinburgh, Midlothian.  His father was Robert Aitken, married to Isabella Borthwick.  Unfortunately I do not have dates for them but I would imagine looking in the 30 year period.

George and Janet traveled out to Brisbane, Australia on the William and Mary in 1852, which is where I pick up my great grandfathers family.

Thanks for being willing to look

Hi Lee

Thanks for that site.  I had come across it before googling but when I emailed them they did not respond.  Definitely is the same family.    Georgina would have been my great grandfathers sister.  Pity they did not reply.  I have emailed them again hoping that they will respond.

Thanks for your help.

We, too are researching this family - Borthwick/Swinton
descended from James b1788 m. Catherine Swinton [1811]
Daughter Catherine b. 1824, Newton Midlothian
She married george Wallace WHITE [1846] in Bo'Ness
The family came to Aust. 1858  on 'Merchant Prince'.
We have traced back as far as Dods/Donaldson marriage [1747/8]
We also have the line back on the Swinton side to Swinton/Ritchie [[1630's]
Happy to share if required.

Hi

I have just seen your post. I have not been into rootschat for a while.  My mom died in May and I had to go back to South Africa, and since then really did not get back into anything until about 2 weeks ago when I started going through all the paperwork I brought back from South Africa.

Let me get through this week and I will drop you a line.

I have recently received information on the Aitken side of the family but I know nothing about Isabella Borthwick so if you do come accross her I would love to hear more about her.

Thanks
Sharleen

Hi

Did you come across any info on Robert Black who worked at Parduvine Farm in the late 1700s and early 1800s.
