Anything on Brendan Glenn or Brendan De Glin
« on: Saturday 13 April 13 20:23 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I was wondering if someone could help me find some information on a distant cousin. I don't have anything on him apart from his parents are Bridget O'Donnell and William Glenn from Donegal and that he was a famous Irish dancing teacher in Derry and liked to go by the name Brendan De Glin. I don't know when he died or when he was born, his parents married in 1906 and in the Irish 1911 census he isn't listed but his parents are listed with a 1 year old child called Thomas and there are 3 woman with the second name O'Donnell staying with them, maybe relations of Bridget. They are in Wellington Street (Londonderry Urban (4), Londonderry)

Hi,
I can find a record of William Glenn marrying BRIGID O'Donnell in Londonderry R.C. Church (probably Long Tower Church) but the date is 1908.

1911 census says married 4 years-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Londonderry/Londonderry_Urban__4_/Wellington_Street/604286

Cup for Derry Feis named after him- wonder if they would have any idea when he died, etc.- contact link on page:

Another possible contact is McGuinness School of Dancing- founded by a former pupil of Brendan's:

Wonder if this is him?

Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

What a blast from the past.
I can positively state that the picture posted by Aghadowey is definitely the person you are looking for.
I recall him losing patience while trying to coach me (two left feet). I only went to the dance classes to get out of the study for an hour. Loreto College in 1960's.
Fabulous dancer...well renouned and respected in the area.
