now if this joseph has any connection to your john --

Joseph Davage - (X), otp m 28 Jul 1823 Mary Williamson - (X), otp at St Michael and All Angels, Ashton under Lyne
Witnesses : W. Williamson and John Standrin

Joseph Davage - buried 31 Mar 1836 age 45 Collegiate Church Manchester

Benjamin Hughes - Full, Cordwainer, Widower of New Bird St. m 12 Sep 1838 Mary Davidge, widow of New Bird St at St Nicholas, Liverpool
Benjamin's father was Benjamin Hughes, Cordwainer, Mary's father was Joseph Lee, Blacksmith
Witnesses: James Eves and Jane Richardson

starts off in Ashton under lyne then moved to central manchester dies and widow marries agian - no sign of john but joseph was born in 1765 - could this be his brother  perhaps ???

Try the Bolton History Centre department as I do know that the East Lancashire Papermill was in Radcliffe which is near Bolton.
