Albert E. New
« on: Sunday 14 April 13 06:56 BST (UK) »
Albert New was born abt. 1858 in Swindon, Berkshire ?. Father was Thomas and mother Elizabeth Haggard.

Can someone help me please for I can't find him in the 1861 or the 1871 census.

Albert immigrated to Australia prior to 1881 for that is when he married Elizabeth Hawse at Queenscliff, Victoria, Australia.

I am starting to get frustrated for I am unable to see the forest for the trees.

Did you mean Swindon, Wiltshire?

From FreeBMD:
Births, June qtr 1858
Highworth district    vol 5a, page 8

New, Albert

(Highworth used to bigger than neighbouring Swindon until Swindon grew with the coming of the railways)

How sure are you Albert's parents were Thomas & Elizabeth?
I'm not seeing any Albert with parents Thomas or Elizabeth? ???

The Albert born in Highworth in 1858 would be the son of Aaron/Aron New and his wife Ann/Annie Townsend. The family migrated to Victoria on the Shooting Star from Liverpool, arrived 11 December 1858.

Ancestry has 22 submitted public trees for the family of Thomas New and Elizabeth Haggard and none of them include an Albert. Are you sure they are the parents?

Hi KGarrad

Reading from the birth cert of one of Albert's sons Archie Oliver New (b) 1895,  it states that he Albert the father was born in Swindon Berkshire England and was 37 years of age making him born in 1857.

The confusion arises whereby New South Wales BDM has two death entries for an Albert New. One being ...
New, Albert EAW , father Thomas, mother Elizabeth A. died at Camperdown 1909.
And
New Albert , father Aaron and mother Ann died at Drummoyne 1924.

Linking this to the reply which Shaun  posted it is definitely not the Albert New who died in 1924.

Now I know this I will need to order the death certificate for Albert EAW New.

Thank you for your help.

Shaun

I have looked at these and from memory none of the tree owners know who the parents are either. I may have missed it but I am pretty sure I know which path I should take now for I need to order the death cert. for Albert EAW New from the New South Wales BDM

Not sure this helps, but FreeBMD is showing just 2 Albert New births, 1855-1860.

The 1858 birth in Highworth.

and: March qtr 1859
Faringdon district    vol 2c, page 266
New, Albert

But he appears to be the son of James & Harriet?
