Sean:  Quick Question.  You write that Ancestry said the 1874 marriage was recorded in Bovington Herefordshire, but in chasing up the leads you and Omega gave me, I came across the following listing in the IGI indexes for the 1851 census of Kent.
Firris    Harriot 1832    Hurst    East Ashford, Aldington
Firris    John    1842    Hurst    East Ashford, Aldington
Firris    Jane    1845    Bonnington    East Ashford, Aldington.
Do you think Ancestry has got it wrong and mistranscribed Bonnington as Bovington and then added Herefordshire to tell people where in the country they thought it was?

After cross checking who John married it seems he married a Philis Message. The other 2 names in the same index were James Lawrence & Fanny Rebben.I found this couple on the 1881 BUT i could`nt find John or Philis or a death for Philis anywhere

Phillis is another one that seemed to have just materilised and then disappeared.  I have not found her on 1841-1871 censuses, nor does there seem to be a FreeBMD entry for her birth.  Roy G

Hi Roy,

Just checked the Batch number on FamilySearch for the marriage and all the others in that batch were also from Bovingdon, Hertfordshire.

Interestingly whilst looking at FamilySearch I came across a Christening for Phyllis Annie Farris Message 8 Nov 1903 Hope, Staffordshire, England: Parents Edwin and Alice. Must be a relative with that name!
