I don't think that the Acton George is your man because the name is NOT given as George Alfred on either the birth registration or the baptism. Also the father is not referred to as George Henry on his marriage or baptisms of his children.

(Incidentally you mentioned at the start that George Alfred may have been from Scotland, I searched Scotlands people website and there is no George Alfred hunt born there 1880-1890)
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

An update. There is a birth registration for a George Hunt in Wandsworth Q2 of 1883 (Vol 1d, p. 707) so have ordered a certificate and hoping it is my man George Alfred :)

OK.  I think I may have discovered a good link from the certificate I ordered but now need something to confirm it.

The birth certificate is for George HUNT b 9 May 1883 in the sub-district of Battersea (reg district Wandsworth) which although the Alfred is missing otherwise makes sense.  The father is listed as Henry HUNT (the George is missing per the marriage certificate of George Alfred though one of them could easily be wrong) with an occupation of Railway Fireman and address of 4 Stewart's Lane West (now Bradmead) which was old railway accommodation.  It is not inconceivable in the next 21 years his occupation would change to Builder (as listed on George Alfred's marriage certificate).  His mother is listed as Jane BENDALL.

If anyone can help confirm the link to Jane BENDALL though marriage or other records it would be appreciated.  To date I have not been able to find any records though not sure where they would have been married.

 Hi

ok the daughter Harriett Ann marries in 1899 at St George Battersea..

father listed as William Henry Hunt railway inspector.
Think we can conclude thats not them as inspector to builder is a big difference

** Added  also we may have to think about the term Builder-  could be at various stages... carpenter/ plasterer/bricklayer all could interchange over time.

Hi

I know it has been a while since the last post but am hoping someone sees this thread and is able to provide some suggestions.

I have been searching for ages now, using Ancestry and other sources and I am still yet to find a reference to George Alfred's birth in Battersea back in 1883.  There are a few similar names as covered in this thread but nothing matches the George Alfred with a father of George Henry as listed on the marriage certificate from 1904

I am at a complete dead end here and would be grateful for any additional detective work  :)

Ray has kindly provided the following if it helps anyone following this thread.  I am going to follow through as much as I can as well

If you accept 1901 176 Highbury Hill as the family

RG13 / 200 / 130 / p18

George H H 45

Mary A/D 47 ( Cran/yford, Kent )

George A/H H 18 ( Cran/yford, Kent )

Lizzie M H 16 ( Peckham )

Mabel D H 14 ( Islington )

Then . . . . . add these to your notes . . . . .

Marriage Sep 1880 LONDON C. 1c 121 George Henry Hunt / Mary Ann Yexley

Birth 1882 Sep DARTFORD ( inc Crayford ) 2a 450 George Henry Hunt ( mmn Yexley )

Birth 1884  Jun CAMBERWELL  01D 887 Lizzie May Hunt ( mmn Yexley )

Birth 1887 MAR ISLINGTON  01B  411 Mabel Dorcas Hunt ( mmn Yexley )

Just adding something interesting I found and hoping someone can help me follow it through -

I have found a school enrolment entry in 1894 for a George Hunt born 12 May 1883 at the Shillington St School which is categorised under the Wandsworth Registration District.  He has a father George and what looks like a brother Thomas (also enrolled at the same school).   The 12 May date is significant as it matches George Alfred's marriage date to Mary Darling and where he was listed as being 21 on the marriage details.

They were listed as living at 117 Livingstone Road (again categorised as Battersea and Wandsworth in the 1890s).  I researched this address and was able to come up with a George Hunt there on a number of electoral rolls.

Is there anyone who might be able to do a better search on the address than I can ? In a census perhaps ?
