Marriage details

12 May 1904 @ the parish church Battersea
George Alfred Hunt (21), Postman (?) of 14 Lombard Road married Mary Ann Darling (19) of 14 Lombard Road. Grooms father George Henry Hunt, Builder. Brides father James Darling, Yard foreman. Witnesses Edith Elizabeth Luff and Emma Eliza Darling.

In 1901 a Mary Jane Oalley 45 is living at 14 Lombard Road, nut interestingly next door at No. 16 is a James Henry Hunt aged 65 from Woburn, Bucks. He is the son of Ruben Hunt and Ann Pyne but I cannot see a son George Henry Hunt

in 1911 14 Lombard Road is the Darling household

(Possible) Children of George Alfred Hunt and Mary Ann Darling in case the names occur amongst George's brothers and sisters

1912 Maud G
1914 George a
1918 Winifred M
1920 William J
1925 Arthur H
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

Yes I have seem that 1891 census and it does seem the best fit. However this is the 1901 census
and it seems to say the son is also George H, although in my opinion that is a bad reading of the original and it could just as easily be George A. just as they have transcribed his birth as Cranford rather than Crayford. The problem is though there is not a George A Hunt registration in the Dartford RD for 1882/3 as there needs to be, but there is a George Henry in 1882

George H Hunt 45
Mary D Hunt 47
George H Hunt 18
Lizzie M Hunt 16
Mabel D Hunt 14

  Hi

Ok  playing around in circles but NOT the family I found above as the son is definately George Henry and I can tie him down in a marriage in 1909 .

Will have another look around for you ....

Again, thanks all.

@tazzie - yes, unfortunately it appears that this is not the George Henry I am looking for but thank you for the research so far.

@davidft - the names of the children of George Alfred Hunt and Mary Ann Darling you have are correct.  There was also Lillian Annie (1909) and I believe William James was born in 1923 rather than 1920.

I am not aware of any of George Alfred's brothers or sisters.  Edith Elizabeth Luff (marriage witness) was a (future) spouse of Mary Ann's brother (James).  Emma Eliza Darling was probably Mary Ann's  Eliza Elizabeth (may have been transcribed wrong on the marriage certificate) so neither of those help I am afraid.

The James Henry Hunt from Buckinghamshire link looks interesting so will look in to that one a bit more as there was a tendency at the time for relationships to develop between near neighbours !

Actually, there is one possible connection I may have found and would be interested to hear any thoughts -

In the 1901 Census there is a George Hunt living at 8 Roslyn Road in Acton.  George (as Head) has a listed occupation of 'General Dealer - own account at home' which I suspect is another way of saying he ran his own business. George (abt. 1858) is married to Matilda (abt 1859) and they have 6 children including George (abt 1883) who could be the George Alfred I am looking for and whose occupation is listed as Bricklayer's Labourer - the same as he is on the 1911 Wales Census in Neath when he is with Mary Ann and their daughter Lilian Annie. He is also not listed as a 'worker' which means he could have been working for his father. The only catch is that in the 1911 Census he lists his place of birth as Battersea though in this 1901 England one it is Acton.  I know they are only a few miles apart but it does concern me a little.

In addition to George (1883) there are 5 other siblings, William (abt 1885), Archibald (abt 1887), Margaret (abt 1894), Susan (abt 1896) and Gertrude (abt 1899).

If someone with better detective skills than me could possibly find some substantiating evidence I would be most grateful !

Thanks again for the help so far.
