Hi Karen,

Samuel was born in Sutton-in-Ashfield, Notts. I think he was baptised 19 Jan 1817, son of John & Ann Wilkinson, framework-knitter of Sutton.

He married Sarah Allsop at Mansfield Woodhouse on 5 Jun 1843.

This may be him on the 1841 census:

1841 census: Forest, Skegby, Notts (HO107/861, book 4, f 5, p 5)
Joseph Holmes, 25, FWK, Yes
Mary Holmes, 40, Yes
Thomas Holmes, 15, FWK, Yes
Sarah Holmes, 13, Yes
Lidya Holmes, 8, Yes
John Holmes, 5, Yes
Hannah Charlmon, 5, Yes
James Brelsford, 25, FWK Journeyman, Yes
Samuel Wilkinson, 20, FWK Journeyman, Yes

Skegby St Andrew burials
26 May 1885 - Sarah Wilkinson, age 65
25 May 1888 - Samuel Wilkinson, of Mansfield Union, aged 73

You say in your post Samuel died in 1885. He died in 1888, his wife died in 1885.

Thankyou thankyou

yes I have the right family - why they had 2 sons named Samuel has me beat - but the one born 1853 and was still alive and kicking in 1881 at the age of 36 is not my Sam, but his younger brother Samuel was supposively born in 1862 and he is the one who's birth records I am searching for - i have all the other details, as he is the father of one of girl's in direct lineage

but again THANKYOU THANKYOU

I think the age of 36 on the 1881 census is a mistake, since there's no other evidence of another Samuel Wilkinson being born abt 1845.
