A few corrections and clarifications to my original post back in April:

- JANE COUTTS [third child of Alexander Coutts, flax dresser, & Jessie Birrel McKay Coutts]
also known as JEAN A. COUTTS, also known as JESSIE ANN MILN/MILLNE COUTTS - born with the latter name 5/11/1869 at 11 Lordburn, Arbroath.  (On SP 272/00 0643)
Not to be confused with her younger sister Jessie, born in Arbroath later.
Daughter of Alexander Coutts, flaxdresser, and Jessie Coutts MS McKay, who were married 25/8/1865 at Lochee.

In 1871, Jane or Jean A. Coutts is on the Scottish census aged 1, living with her parents and siblings at 10 Bakers Wynd, Arbroath - siblings Mary Ann (7) and Alexander (4) - the latter being the Fife-born baker who emigrates to New York in the late 1880s/early 90s.

In 1881, Jane is with the family at Walkerton village, house no. 26, Kinglassie, Fife.  Jane (11) is at school.  Her younger sister Jessie is also in the household, at school.

In 1891, Jane is with her widowed mother (Jessie Birrel McKay Coutts) at 14 Millgate Loan, Arbroath and a new brother, Stewart McKay Coutts [my great grandfather].  Jane is 18, unmarried, a flax spinner. Mother Jessie (47) is on the list of female voters in the 1891 Arbroath Yearbook and Almanac - screen capture below.

In 1892, I think Jane emigrates to the US on board the Ethiopia, to join her brother, the Brooklyn baker.   https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/J654-ZZZ
"Last place of residence, Arbroath.  Aged 18."  On the original ship's manifest, her stated destination is Brooklyn, NY.  Occupation:  'help' [domestic service?]

She goes off the radar after 1892, but she may be the "Jane Colt" living in Southampton, Suffolk County, NY in 1925, as a sister to the head of house.  Her age is a bit off.  Her nephew Alexander (the book keeper at the golf club) is also living in Southampton that year, with an uncle or aunt.  https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/KSHN-K3R

- The youngest daughter JESSIE COUTTS, [fourth child of Alexander Coutts & Jessie Birrel McKay], was born 4/6/1872 at 10 Bakers Yard, Arbroath.  (On SP 272/00 0292)

This is the same address the dad Alexander (flax dresser) is at the previous year when he reports his mother's death, SARAH ALLARDICE (a.k.a. Sarah Coutts / Sarah Douglas / Sarah McLarty) - first wife of WILLIAM COUTTS.  (1871 Statutory Deaths 272/00 0263)

Errandum: not Bakers Yard ... Baker's Wynd.  Built 1822, it used to lead to the public bakehouse in Arbroath.  http://www.arbroathtimeline.moonfruit.com/#/streets-a-b/4520927294

It's been rebuilt into modern housing, but the street still exists.  Behind The Crown pub and near the old Abbey Parish Church.
