The Staite family were neighbours for decades to our family in Swindon.

On the 1911 census, there is George STAITE - aged 58 - born Guitings
wife Mary - 53, Sons, Percy 21, Walter 18, Florence 14 and Ernest 11 - living at Crowdy's Hill, Stratton  St Margaret - at that time my father c1906  was living his family a few houses down - but within a few years were living next to the Staites - and this continued until 'Dick' Staite and his wife  died and my family left late 80's.

I have a hand saw made by Rye & Co Swindon - stamped W C Staite - assume this is Walter Charles Staite -  obviously 'Dick' (who worked in the Railways) passed it over the wall to our family.

Hello Capetown & Victor
I found this website last night after searching for information on Walter Charles Staite.
I would be interested in any information you have on Walter? The fact that your family lived near them at the time is fascinating along with that saw -wow!
It’s a long shot, but I’m also wondering whether you have any photos of the Staite family from back then?
Walter would be my Great Uncle. His brother Francis Harry was my Grandfather.
Thank you

I found some more information on Walter yesterday after joining the Great War Forum and have done some further research on Ancestry. I would still be interested to hear of any information you may have, especially any information from Capetown, having lived so close to the family. Thank you.

I understand I need to make 3 posts before any messages. I believe I may also have found a photo of Walter via a search on the internet. I’m not 100% sure, but the photo I am referring to certainly has a likeness to my own father.
