William HUTCHINGS Born Clayhidon
« on: Sunday 28 April 13 05:58 BST (UK) »
On the 1851 it shows William Hutchings born at Clayhidon Devon he could have been born any time between 1808 and 1810.

His father could have been John Hutchings what I am after is his father and mother information.

What could be a red herring was one of William daughter had the name of Hawkins in her name.

If you obtain his marriage certificate, it will give his father's name & occupation, which may help to locate his baptism. Unfortunately this will require searching the Clayhidon registers at the Devon Record Office, as they have not to my knowledge, been transcribed pre 1813.

Hello Nc,

In 1851 census does your William Hutchings live at Wiltown (a hamlet in Clayhidon parish) with his sister Sarah?  William aged 29 b about 1822 in Clayhidon

I have a CD from Devon Family History Society of their transcriptions of Clayhidon 1813-1837 baptisms and marriages 1754-1837 and can see the following William HUTCHINGS baptisms ...

William b 26 12 1820 son of Samue and Eleanor (father a Husbandman)
William b 19 10 1823 son of Jacob and Sarah (father a Husbandman)

Try comparing 1851, which has more information, to 1841, when your people are younger, to help sort out the several Hutchings families that appear in those census.

Salute,
Janelle

Good Morning
It seems William and his wife married in the June qtr 1839 10 775  at Wellington Somerset. Her maiden name being Morgan.
An online tree gives the marriage at Ashbrittle 18.4.1839 but marriages on line only go up to 1837.There doesn't seem to be any people of the right date married or baptised of either surname in the parish up to that date however.

The Clayhidon parish records are not online at this stage.

Nc,

I have bought a copy of Clayhidon microfiche since I first replied - at that time I did not realise your William was not actually at Clayhidon, haha  :D but living at Huntsham. hmm

So, I have looked through the period 1800 to 1812 for a William baptism son of John Hutchings, and did not see any William in that period.  :(

Baptisms found for children of John and ...

1804  May 7?   Mary    dau  John and Ann
1806  Jan 12    Sarah  dau  John and Mary
1808  July 3     John    son  John and Mary
1810  June 26  Joan    dau  John and Mary

           Thank you for the information

When William died the newspapers said he was over 100 years old,but I think that was a bit of
a lie your information confirms he was not hundred when he died.

Hey Nc,

I'm glad to help but I'm not the last word on any of this.

I would love to have a centurian within my tree. (spelling Not my strongest point.) Don't dismiss such an interesting story out of hand. Look for ways to prove it :-\
