Roderick McKenzie 5th of Redcastle
« on: Thursday 02 May 13 14:23 BST (UK) »
Hello,

Has anybody researched the McKenzie Clan of Redcastle and Kintail?  I am after confirmation of the line of descendants of Jean McKenzie (Mackenzie) my 4th great grandmother.

I am told that Roderick McKenzie 5th of Redcastle born Redcastle 1660 and died 1725 in Cromarty is my 8th Great Grandfather.

His son was Alexander McKenzie my 7th great grandfather born 1690 in Ross and Cromarty, Scotland and died in 1775 in Ontario, Canada. He married Margaret Galbreath.

Alexanders son was  William McKenzie my 6th great grandfather born 9 Oct 1715 in Blairlogie, Stirlingshire, he married a Janet Duff.  They had a son John.  John McKenzie
is my 5th great grandfather born 28 Aug 1739 in Perth, Perthshire, and died 6 May 1791 in Dunbar, East Lothian. John married Janet Scot.

Jean McKenzie was the daughter of John and Janet.  She is my 4th great grandmother, born in 1768 in Dunbar, and died 1839 in Norham. She married Robert Denholm.

Unsure accuracy of what I have put down here any assistance be great please.

Hi Andy

I have only just seen your posting so am well out of date! I have just finished reading an excellent book 'Redcastle - A Place in Scotland's History' written by a local man Graham Clark. This gives a pretty complete history of the Mckenzies of Redcastle (warts and all) right back to the 13 century. Roderick (the 5th) was Colin Mckenzie's eldest son and was known as Ruairi Dearg (Red Rory). He married Margaret, daughter of James Grant of Freuchie and had 4 sons and 3 daughters. If you want any further info just let me know. Fascinating book though!

Best wishes
KJL
