john rorke of Finnstown House co dublin died in Boulogne France in 1848 and his brother Laurence died in 1859 same place . Laurence had lands at Knockmitten ,Neilstown and Clondalkin co dublin. there is an address associated with these deaths ''  68 Rue de la Paix ,Boulogne ,France.  i was wondering if anyone knew of a burial place for these men or a likely location or any thing to do with their lives in France. any information greatly appreciated.

Pas de Calais archives are online:
http://www.archivespasdecalais.fr/Archives-en-ligne/Etat-civil/Actes

For example if you go into Boulogne-sur-mer deaths for 1844-1852 John Rorke is on page 883 of 1527 (act number 310).  Mentions his wife but not other family.  (I'll have more time for this later).

thank you for your quick reply unfortunately due to language barrier i am unable to use the index. I would appreciate if you could give me the name of his wife as i have very little information on his family as irish records are very scarce for that time period. most of what i have learned i got from the minute books of the Grand Canal Company and some family wills.all i know about him is that he had a contract with the canal co to tow the barges with his horses in the early 1800s and the minute books give his address as Finnstown House. There seems to be some confusion that he may have been a J.P. As far as i know his father was Laurence Rorke.

John Rorke, 16 May 1848 (date of certificate), Boulogne-sur-Mer
This should be the direct link:
http://archivesenligne.pasdecalais.fr/ark:/64297/5fdb9bb16d1bdd87

On the 16th May, at 10 in the morning, John Sneezum, and 45, and Nathan Bruwelson, aged 35, not related to the deceased, reported the death of John Rorke, living here (i.e. Boulogne-sur-Mer), a native of the county of Westmeath, Ireland, aged 70, the husband of Mary Murphy (other information not known), died yesterday at 4pm, at his residence, 3 Rue Percee(?)

Lawrence, 8 Jan 1859
http://archivesenligne.pasdecalais.fr/ark:/64297/339c8b1b31642ac8
At 1pm, 8 Jan 1859, Joseph Patrick Murphy, aged 50, doctor of medicine, and Lawrence Rorke, 25, the first resident here and the friend of the deceased, the second resident Clondalkin, Dublin, Ireland and the son of the deceased, reported the death of Lawrence Rorke, resident Boulogne, born Clondalkin, aged 68, widower from his first marriage to Therese O'Neil, widower from his second marriage to Julia O'Neil, son of Lawrence Rorke and... (further particulars not known to informants).  Died this day at 5am at his residence, 68 Rue de la Paix, Boulogne.

(occupations of the Rorkes is given as "rentier" which I think just means "income from property").

Well Jorose what can i say other than thats absolutely fantastic,i never dreamt i would get this sort of information when i started this topic, my brother has been researching this man for the past two years and he will be absolutely over the moon, we thought John was born in Clondalkin but now thanks to you we know its Westmeath opening up a new avenue of research, i cant wait to pass on the information to him thanks to you. Its great that you could get the wives names so crucial as you know when doing genealogy.A BIG BIG massive thank you for your time and effort especially the translation of same which i could'nt possibly have done without your help. Regards from Dathai.
