I'm still trying to figure out how to install an FFT filter plugin.
Copy & paste the plug-in file to this location. In your case it will be Elememts 9 instead of CS4

Well I'm still in the dark ages using Photoshop Elements 8 and at the moment, for various reasons, I cannot justify an upgrade to something else.  Hardly surprising that it takes me ages to restore anything, but I still enjoy using it and like tommi I'm contunually finding new ways of doing things.

No doubt this news has implications for my daughter and her business though.  :-\

Nothing wrong with Elements Maggie, I started on 5 then jumped to 9... there are only a few small extras but I still prefer the style of Elements 5!  The only real drawback I can see for restorers  using Elements over the full CS package is that you can't access the colour channels in the same way. If my memory serves me correctly, you need the colour channels to utilise the FFT filter, I've certainly only ever used it in CS3.

ps. you can also utilise the colour channels with paintshop pro, which is alot cheaper   ;D
Please acknowledge when a restorer works on your photos, it can take hours for them to work their magic

Please scan at 300dpi minimum to help save the restorers eyesight.

Yep - you have to just use the Red channel when you're painting over the light bits and then turn back on to apply the inverse!

I still like PSP for some things - I started with an early version, then 7 and I now use XI for some things.

My very old (11 years) desktop in Scotland couldn't cope with CS2, let alone 3 so I used CS1 (?) and  PSP 7 for ages - some of my early restores/colour on  here were done with that or very early Elements.

Now I have a laptop with lots of power so I take that up.

An encouraging reply for me jc  ;D

As yet I'm only an occasional colour user so perhaps PS 8 will suit me for a while longer.  Also, and perhaps I'm a bit strange in this, I do enjoy the therapeautic challenge in revovating and cleaning up a photo in a long-winded way rather than coming to rely on filters for ironing out defects, although more and more I find I'm 'discovering' them, and other ways of tweeking the original.

Everyone has a different approach and this is what makes for such a rich variety in the interpretations posted.  Gradually I'm learning how to achieve certain effects but my own approach is to try to keep as close to the original as possible.  :)

I've been trying to find Jenny's thread where she gives the link to how to use FFT but can't find it.  Here's the link anyway:

I've tried this FFT filter but can't get on with it at all.
The latest versions requires one to sell one's soul to the Devil before you can download it.
