Fetteresso, Stonehaven look-up please
« on: Saturday 18 May 13 21:25 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Can anyone do a look-up for Baptisms in the nearest church to Market Square, Fetteresso please.

My ggg g/dad was living at that location when my gg g/dad & his brother were born but I have search SP & Family Search & came up empty handed.

David Morris Hogg b Kincardine Feb/Mar 1840 (aged 4m in 1841)
John Hogg b Kincardine c 1836 (aged 4 in 1841)

Parents James Hogg & Ann Robinson

In this case I'm the weakest link  ;D

Regards,

A. M.

If baptism records for these boys are not on SP or Family Search, there probably won't be any record. For safe-keeping the OPR books are at the General Records Office in Edinburgh, so a look-up in the church is not an option.

The census says that the boys were born in the county of Kincardine - not necessarily the parish of Fetteresso where they were on census night - so I looked to see if they might have been baptised in another Kincardineshire parish. However I don't see any baptisms for those names.

Hi Isabel,

I guess I was hoping for a miracle. I suppose when we hit brick walls like this you just want to make sure that you have done all you can but hold on to that wee glimmer of hope  ;D

Regards & thanks for your efforts,

Baptismal Register of St James's Episcopal Church in Stonehaven has this entry for 2 October 1838:

Hogg: James had a son baptised John. Witnesses John (illegible but may begin with L) and John Hogg

I could not find an entry for baptism of James

Hi jlmc,

Don't know how I missed this ?
Thank you very much, that sure looks like the oldest son (John) who may have been named after his grandad?
I haven't found John's brother David Morris/Maurice. Their mother was Ann Robinson & her father was Thomas so I don't know who David was named after & it doesn't carry on down the line...neither David or Morris ?
