Fitzgerald's of The Abbey Skibbereen / Lisbealad Dunmanway Cork
« on: Sunday 19 May 13 14:45 BST (UK) »
Hi Folks,
I am trying to trace descendants of my Great grandfather's children.
He was Richard Fitzgerald and he married his first wife Ann Mahony in Skibbereen in 1846.
They had 4 children: Ellen (1855)
                              John (1857)
                              Bridget (1859)
                              Catherine(1847)
His second marriage was to Mary Grace in 1861.
I am trying to make contact with a son his, Richard (1875), who married in England. Also Annie Mary (1872), who married Grace and emigrated to America.
Mary (1882) married Fitzpatrick, and lived in the Drinagh area I understand.
He also had a daughter Margaret, who married Daniel ( The Master) McCarthy in 1888, they had a few children, some of whom may have emigrated to England.

I would really appreciate it if any of you could help me.

Thanks,

Anna

Welcome to Rootschat  :)

parents Richard Fitzgerald & Mary Grace- there could be other children born between the marriage in 1861 and the start of birth registration in 1861 and other children after 1881 (extracted LDS Irish births cover 1864-1881 and are not complete)
BIRTH: Richard Fitzgerald (1867) https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FPYP-FLS

Hi there,
Thank you so much for that.
Yes their first child was Edmond born 1863.
                                 Margaret born 1865.

I am concentrating my research on Anne Mary at the moment. She married John Grace and emigrated to America. I am to establish if she married here and then travelled, or if they married in the States.
Thanks
Anna

No idea really.
I have information on a James Grace and an Anna Fitzgerald living in The Bronx.
They married in 1897 and had 7 children.
That James Grace was born in 1870, he arrived in the U.S. on 29/03/1894.
The dates would match up, she was born in 1872, my information was that she married a John Grace, and they lived in the U.S.
I need to get a marriage cert., I guess.

Yes, that is great.
That explains the "gap" in Richard's family.
I had Catherine born 8-04-1847 ( I don't have her sponsors), and the next child was Ellen born 06-02-1855.
I think that Ellen was born in Dunmanway.
Thank you so much
Anna

You will get Catherine's sponsors at www.irishgenealogy.ie if you search there. I'd assumed you had searched this site? I had a quick look yesterday. I think there were other children for the second marriage than those Aghadowey posted from FamilySearch.

Thank you . Yes I have the full list of names from Richards second marriage. Also his marriage to Anne Mahony. I have checked the details on the site......yea I will do a double check on Catherine later. I was missing Mortimer as I said so I am thrilled with that info.
Thanks again
Anna
