Hello
I would appreciate any help in tracing this couple (my 3xg grandparents)
John Williams (born Llangollen abt 1806)
Gwen (aka Winifred) born Llanuwchllyn abt 1802
I don’t know where they married, but they started their family in Froncysyllte (Llangollen) then moved to North Shropshire. It appears highly likely that Gwen was born a Jones in Llanuwchllyn.
Their first two children, Jane and Thomas were baptised in the Pontcysyllte Calvinistic Methodist Chapel as follows. This is where I got Gwen’s maiden name from.
Born 12 Sept 1833 Baptised 5 Oct 1833
Jane Williams d/o John Williams (labourer) and Gwen (maiden name Jones). Abode – Vroncysyllte (father lived Ruabon before marriage)
Same place
Thomas Williams born 14 Sept 1835 bapt 4 October 1835
Parents John Williams (lab) and Gwen (mn Jones) Residence as aboveA very helpful person (Gnu) found two baptism records that could possibly relate to Gwen and a brother William (although Jones is such a popular name that it might not be them). If they were non-conformists (as Gwen and John were later), this could well not be them either.
Llanuwchllyn
7 June 1801 Gwen d/o John Jones and Catherine
2 Feb 1795 William s/o John Jones and Catherine of Cynllwyd. So – what would be useful would be:
A marriage record for John and Gwen, either in Llanuwchllyn, Ruabon or Llangollen, prior to October 1833.
Birth or baptism records for John Williams, in Llangollen
Birth or baptism records for Gwen in Llanuwchllyn
OR Good tips on where I might find this information
As ever, any help would be gratefully received. Also, thanks again to WRJones and Gnu who helped me get to this point.
Thanks for reading this.
Mike
