Help please with Census 1901/1911
Cannot find Alexander Snowball's birth 1862 at Stranton,Hartlepool or his marriage to a Mary.
Believe he could be Aber Snowball born 1862 Hartlepool to William Snowball/ Margaret Corner.
I have their children's names & births and wonder if someone has access &  kindly look up 1901/1911 census Hartlepool details for Alexander Snowball for me please, may give more info him.
If anyone needs help with Co Durham & N'land Snowballs I have researched many of them, being my family.

Pam

Hi Pam, that marriage looks good, their is another thread (by someone else) where another Alexander was shown as Ellick/Elick, I looked it up, it is the 1871 where Elick is used RG10/4931/42/44 (And it is written Elick on the original) and in 1861 RG09/3807/94/2 Elick becomes Alexander, so possibly it is a local corruption of Alexander ie Alec?

I am certain someone will put us right!

PS and this was a Snowball as well!

:)
Thank you Pam and very grateful Ian, you have correct Alexander 1901 census am lookin for.
I found most of those children, apart from last 2 born. Now I have an address. I am fairly sure Abel was Alexander, he 20 stated coal miner born Sunderand on 1881 census as boarder at Railway Inn, Castle Eden - he cannot be the other Alexander's born at Sunderland,I have data those there, however Castle Eden was link with "Abel's" parents living there in 1864 when the father William Snowball died. Maybe was a transcription 1871 census mistake, Alex named as Abel,  not found anything later for Abel.
The Snowballs had earlier connections with Witton Gilbert and Sunderland.
Mother Margaret H Corner had remarried 1866 & by 1871 census was a Widow using 2nd husband's surname Stephenson and with her were William Snowball's children including "Abel".
    Many thanks everyone for help.

---------
he will have been called "ellick" because of accent problems which were prevalent in the censuses - they wrote down what they heard.

please be aware that prior to amalgamation in 1967 the towns of hartlepool and west hartlepool were separate entities.

Hi re christian name of Ellick/Elick, I just put Ellick (with variants box ticked) in the 1861 census, it was a christan name throughout the UK, so not certain if it was/is a misheard Alexander?

Also is their any relevance to no father being mentioned for Ellick at marriage?

OK after googling a bit, Ellick is a boys name of Greek or Anglo-Saxon origin, meaning "Defender of Humankind"

Alexander is also Greek meaning " Defefender of men"
