Bert Middleton Potter Looe
« on: Wednesday 29 May 13 21:56 BST (UK) »
Hello
Can anyone tell me anything about this man.
I wonder if he was the son of Edward Middleton and Emmeline Honey born 1907 died 1975.
If so he is the great grandfather of my great nephew whose family tree I am starting to research
Thank you

Hi
The 1911 census shows him living with those parents at Fore Street, East Looe . Also siblings Lewis and Minnie.  Father was a fish and fruit merchant, born Mevagissey.

Hope this helps

Thank you for your reply Mo.
This is the man I am researching but since I discovered there was a potter in Looe with the same name (after seeing a Bert Middleton pottery jug on eBay !) I was wondering if they were the same person.  I am not able to ask family members.  Best wishes

Have you thought about contacting Looe Library and asking if they have any info on him - being local to them.

There is an entry on Facebook referring to someone's Auntie Marie and Uncle Bert Middleton who were fisherfolk - any use?

"I really enjoyed all these photographs. My great grandfather was Richard Pengelly [Dick Clubs] and my grandmother and mother [Vera and Joyce]were both born in Looe. I have fond memories of sunny days in Looe as a child with Auntie Marie and Uncle Bert Middleton."

Thank you very much to everyone who helped me with my query. I have now confirmed that the Bert Middleton I mentioned was in fact the potter who had his own shop in Looe.  Many Thanks

Hello Jason.
My name is Margaret Daniels and I am the 'honorary' grandma of Joss Webb son of Justin and I believe your brother?
My hobby has been genealogy for many years and a few years ago I did some research of your family tree with Justin.  Over the years I have dipped into it for my own interest and one day for Joss.
My query to RootsChat was because although Justin had mentioned that his grandfather was an 'actor and musician'  he had not mentioned pottery.  When I knew it was the same person I emailed Justin and he sent the following reply.

Hello Margie,

Yes that's right. That was my mothers dad who had his own pottery workshop and famous pottery shop for many years.  Have very strong memory's of him as he looked after me and my twin a lot when we were around 4 and 5 years old.

I still have some of his pieces in the attic somewhere.

Justin

I have since bought a little Bert Middleton jug and have put it in the loft for Joss.

I continue to look at the family with interest.  Have you seen this website?

http://www.cornwall24.net/2013/10/the-woodrow-pengellys-of-looe/

There is a picture of old Richard Pengelly and his family.  Although it does not indicate which is the son Richard Pengelly  the man on the left of the picture bears a striking resemblance to Justin (and perhaps you ??)

I hope you don't mind me replying to you.
Best wishes
Margie
