Birth place
« on: Wednesday 05 June 13 10:00 BST (UK) »
Hi,
the 1901 census (RG13/5003/51/36) shows Elizabeth Ann Williams 12, born Cardiganshire, Llan???, living in Pontypridd, Glam.
Father John 36, born same as Elizabeth, Driver for brewery.
Please can someone work out the correct place of their birth.
Many thanks,
Rob

what the enumerator has written appears to be Lanfhingalycyder, so I'd say it's one of the ones beginning Llanfihangel, possibly meant to be Llanfihangel y Creuddyn. Have you found them in 1891?

Thanks Osprey,
I guessed the Llanfihangel part, but couldn't decide on the ending.
No, I haven't nailed them in 1891, have you spotted them?

regards,
Rob

not as yet. From David John's birthplace, you might think they were in the Tregaron area.

Do you have certs for the family? Have you found them in 1911? Dolly would seem to an easier one to trace. At least you'd get mother's maiden name.

is it possible that the mother in 1901 is Margaret Jane like her daughter, rather than plain Jane? If so, the ages of 2 younger children here are a good match? Places of birth not so good.

1891 Pistill y Gwehydd(?), Llanddewi Brefi RG12/4564 folio 102 pg 3
Margaret Williams wife 26 collier's wife
Thomas M son 4
Elizabeth A dau 2
David J son 4 months b. Llanddewi Brefi
Elizabeth Edwards boarder 18
all born Aberystwyth except David J

I have Elizabeth Ann (age 17) marriage to Henry Morgan 1906 in Crumlin, Mon. Residence for both Penmaen (Crumlin). Her father; John, Haulier.
1911 census shows them in Abertridwr, Glam. Her birthplace Aberystwyth, Cards.
I can see that Llanfihangel is 7miles from Aberystwyth.
I think I have Dolly in 1911 at Abertridwr (birth Pontypridd), with parents John and 'Margaret' which fits your theory,  (birthplaces for both just Cardigan) and bro Wm R Williams 17, birth Monmouth (shire)
Thanks for Dolly birth index.
Rob

good, at least that entry makes sense! Couldn't see an entry with Jane as wife. Haven't spotted John in 1891 for sure, but he might not be enumerated if he was lodging somewhere. There's more than one John Williams of round about the right age in Llanfihangel y Creuddyn and 2 of them appear to have parents called William & Jane.
