Munn/McLean families Lanarkshire
« on: Saturday 08 June 13 08:27 BST (UK) »
Hi
Am searching for my mothers family. All my dates are about.

John McLean (1844) married Elizabeth Burnside (1847)
They had 7 children including John (1876) who married Agnes Munn (1880).
Don't know Agnes fathers first name but she had a brother William and sister Jean.
Their mothers name was Jean McLean.
Most of them seem to have been born and lived in the Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire areas.
Hope some can help
Cheers Fiona

Hi,,

Scotlands people www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk has a marriage for a John Mclean to an Agnes Brown Munn 1900, Glasgow.

That would give you her father's name if you think this is the right couple.

Also 1881 census has this family.

Address 2 Underwood St, Paisley, Renfrew

William Munn 38 head signal trimmer
Jane Munn 31 wife
William Daveis Munn 3 son
Agnes Brown Munn 1 dau

All born Paisley.

Thanks so much Sharon. I think this is the right family. I live in Australia and find it hard to get information. Any family members still living dont remember certain things 😊

I've done some Munn research but not sure that they connect to this lot.  Re the marriage of Wm Munn and Jane/Jeanie McLean...as previously stated, it occured on the 11 Nov 1867 at Stonefield, Paisley in the district of Abbey.  Wm was 25, son of John Munn (Hairdresser) dec. & Ursula Gordon.  He was a Private in the 92nd Foot.??? with no residence given for him.

Jane McLean was a domestic servant of 1835 George St Paisley and her parents were Louis McLean (Slater) & Jessie Morrison.  Witnesses were Alexander McLean & Janet Galt.

Wm Gordon Munn died 03 Mar 1915 aged 72 at 19 Kennedy Drive Partick.  Hist parents (both dec.) are as above.  He was a tramway conductor which agrees with the 1891 census (also army pensioner) and the informant was Jeanie Munn (widow).  Cause of death: Syncope

Thanks everyone wondering how to find further info.
It seems William Gordon Munn was a Private in the 92nd (Gordon Highlanders) of Foot Regiment.
On my notes taken from family my great aunt said she thought he was in the Indian Army.
The 92nd Foot did go several times to India so am now trying to find how to access these records
Any ideas of the best way 😳

Just noted on the 1881 census for John McLean and Eliza Burnside that their eldest daug Jane aged 9, was born in New York.  Could be the marriage was in the U.S. and not in Scotland?

Also, I noted that this John McLean was born Inverkeithing and his occupation was Blacksmith.  It's possible he's the son of Daniel McLean and Helen Johnston.  There's a John McLean born to them 03 Aug 1843 Inverkeithing and he appears on the 1861 census aged 17 and an apprentice Blacksmith.  There's also a David McLean aged 19 born Inverkeithing which agrees with a birth on the LDS site to the same couple born 01 May 1841 in Inverkeithing.  They were living at Garthill Cottage, Inverkeithing.

Thanks everyone for their help last time, all the info was correct.
I have the marriage details of John McLean and Elizabeth Burnside in New York
1870 and I think details of Elizabeth arriving there shortly beforehand. But I can
Find no records of John (born 1843) arriving or any record of their eldest daughter (Jeanie, Jean, Jane) birth in New York in 1872. Can anyone help?

Cheers Fiona
