Gillian

You need to be in on the internet archive site which is www.archive.org.  (If you type "internet archive" into google it should come up as one of the hits.)  This takes you to their index/search page and then you can type in the search terms.

There are poll books for other counties and lots of other books on Westmorland including lots of CWAAS publications.
regards
Deborah

Hi
I would like to find some old school photo's of Patterdale , Elementry School and the School House, my husbands Grandfather Joseph Beck Philipson was head master there from 1884 - 1924.  His 1st wife was Clara Sophia she died in Oct-Dec 1911, they had a adopted daughter Clara Blythe.  His 2nd wife was Mary Isabel and they had 2 children Joseph 1918 and Doreen 1919 who were both born in the school house.  If anyone who has any family history which is connected to the school, or the Philipson's I would love to hear from you.

Hi,

I don't think this has been posted already but my apologies if it has.

Cumbria libraries now have access to some of the newspapers on the Gale site.

Access the county library site at http://www.cumbria.gov.uk/libraries/

You will need your library card number.

"The Transformation of a Yeoman Society:Windermere 1640-1841" is a 35,000 word dissertation on the growth of the village which is available on Search room shelves at Records Office,Kendal.
The author contacted me with information of my family there in early 19th century.

Hi, the Cumbria BMD service has been launched today, it aims to cover the modern Cumbria which includes some northern parts of Lancashire, as well as Westmorland and Cumberland.

Here is the link

I would like to reply to mysubee' s below about the philipson of Patterdale. I too am interested in Joseph Beck Philipson (in relation to W R Philipson who wrote Birds of a Valley and holidayed in Patterdale as a child. Were these two Philipson related, I would like to know. I could could expand on this if anyone is interesred. Stephen Heery
