Stuck William Jenkins Herefordshire
« on: Friday 14 June 13 11:16 BST (UK) »
Helping my friend with her family tree and we are stuck looking for William Jenkins abt1853

We can see him on  censuses 1891with his wife Emma and children Sarah Thomas Jane and Elizabeth living in Moccas Herefordshire said to be born Glanmor Glannans ?
In 1901 he was said to be born Longtown 1852
In 1911 the census says 1852 Clodock Hereford

I have his marriage cert to Emma William which says his father is Thomas Jenkins deceased General Labourer as he is .
The address is 44  Eign street and Emma is at 12 Eign street a public house she is a servant
The witnesses are John and Hatrriet Godsall

I can find a William Jenkins on the 1871 census as a servant born Michealchurch Escley wihich is the Clodock area

I have looked for him in 1861 and cant find him but there is a Thomas Jenkins abt 1801
 from Michaelchurch living with wife Hannah and daughter Sarah
In 1851 Thomas 1805 Michaelchurch is with Hariet and children Anne Thomas and Hariet

Hope someone can help

Bit if an old mish mash isn't it. My first impression is that you are confusing two or more William Jenkins, unless he is fibbing or genuinely doesn't know where he was born.

I've found out that:
Glanmor= West Glamorgan
Longtown = Cumbria
Clodock = Hereford

(lots of distance between all of those places, unless there are places of the same name all in Hereford?)

It might be an idea to go back to the drawing board.

Can I confirm that your first definite sighting of him is when he married Emma William. When and where did they marry?

I wonder if the family were living over the border in Wales in1861 living at Tack, Hay.  The birthplace of Olchan (valley) is north of Longtown

Thomas Jenkins    50 b Craswall, Herefordshire Ag Lab
Ann Jenkins    39 b Kington, Herefordshire
Robert Aaron Jenkins    12
Hannah Jenkins    10
William Jenkins    8 b Olchon, Herefordshire
Sarah Ann Jenkins 3

Kay

Edit - there is a Longtown in Herefordshire and in 1891 his birthplace has been crossed out and replaced by Not Known

They married in 1882 in Hereford
Yes I am sure you might be right that I am muddling the Jenkins but "CLODOCK, a parish in the hundred of Ewyas-Lacy, in the county of Hereford, 4 miles W. of the Pontrilas station of the Newport and Hereford line, and the same distance S.W. of Abbey Dore. It is situated on the river Munnow, under the Black mountains, and contains the chapelries of Crasswall, Llanveynoe, Longtown, and Newton.

Glad to know there is a Longtown in Hereford. That's one less anomoly.  :)

I'll have a look at the family through the censuses. (Kay's 1861 find looks promising)

I think with his place of birth in 1891, the enumerator started to write Glamorgan (ie the county first as he did with others on the page) but only got as far as writing 'Glamor'. The word is not Glanmor. And Kay is correct - after Glamor is written "Glannans" and both words are crossed out and replaced with NK.
