Further, there was a hospital recorded on Barron Street in the valuation rolls. The adjacent building was a house called Elmville. The research continues.

Fascinating Malky!

I had no idea that Great Northern Road was at one time known as Barron Street. It's also interesting that it doesn't seem to be too well documented. I have other ancestors who lived on Albion Street which is now the Beach Boulevard.

Hi Malky,

Did you manage to uncover anymore about the Woodside Epidemic Hospital?

We are still digging. It seems that the hospital may have been run by/belonged to the police originally, so not quite tied this one up yet as clarification is required.

That would tie in with what I've managed to find.

The Valuation Rolls that I've found state the proprietor to be the Town Council of Aberdeen as local authority (Police dept.).

It's been a while, but Fiona has managed to finally find some information. She has a reference to a minute book which will be checked on Monday for the further information it may contain. I will not post what she has told me yet, as I feel that she should have the opportunity to disclose the information herself, considering the long term effort she has put into finding said information.
Update next week.

It's been really interesting looking into this!  Malky now has some images from the Aberdeen Town Council minutes showing the meetings of the Public Health Committee where they discuss the Fever Hospital at Woodside and its future use in 1891, when Woodside became part of Aberdeen City proper.  There's a reference to it in the book Epidemic Diseases in Aberdeen and the History of the City Hospital by Ian A. Porter and Michael J. Williams which mentions it's in Middlefield, which puts it where the Haudigan roundabout is now.

I'll let Malky put the images up!
