Patrick Loughrey
« on: Tuesday 18 June 13 20:38 BST (UK) »
Patrick Loughrey, aged 27, left County Derry, Northern Ireland, in 1926 and sailed on the Regina, White Star Dominion line, to Halifax arriving on 12th April 1926. His emigration documents stated he was a farm labourer. According to family history no word was heard from him since then, any information would be really grateful. No family left with any recollection unfortunately. Prior to his departure from Ireland he was staying with Jas Shiels in Kilrea. Trying to pull the family tree together and I have no information on Patrick other than he was born in Glasgow, classed himself as Irish Race on emigration form and his father lived in Ballydullaghan.

Hi Caoimhin,

Your search may be a little hindered by Canada's strict privacy laws.  There are no Central registries/indexes in Canada for BMDs.  Canada has very strict privacy laws and each province imposes its own even further.  Additionally, some provinces are more research friendly than others so researching in Canada can be challenging.  The last available Canadian Census was 1911 apart from Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta which was 1916 (1921 due shortly - hopefully)   As a guide BMD Records are only available for births more than a 100 years ago, marriages 80 years ago and deaths 70 years ago.

According to the passenger list, he was headed to Winnipeg, Manitoba under the Dept of Colonization. His passage was paid by self and ESO.(Empire Settlement). I haven't been able to find anything on him in Manitoba after the passenger list. His intended occupation in Canada was farming and his contact in the country coming from was his father A. Loughrey, Ballydullaghen.

Someone may be able to pick up on this and find something more.
