Michael Higgins and Bridget (Mary) Coomber
« on: Tuesday 25 June 13 06:06 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find out information on my great grandparents Michael Higgins and Bridget Coomber.
I believe that they were born in Galway, Michael approx. 1849 and Bridget 1866.  I have Michael dying in Australia (qld) in 1922.  Unfortunately that is all the information that I have on them.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,

You say you have no other information. What about their children? Were  they born in Ireland or Australia?
This may help in finding out re emigration.

Regards
Heywood

I am trying to confirm that my grandfather was born in Queensland in 1889. I am waiting on birth certificate for this.  I do not know if they had other children.
cheers

That might be the best way to go about this.
It would give a better time line to work on. They may have married in Queensland.

Best wishes

Thankyou for your input.  I am afraid I broke one of the rules of research. Presumption.  I just presumed as they both came from Galway that they were married there.  Shall "hold my horses" and wait for certificate.

Cheers

Hi Grumpier.

I wish I had come to this site earlier. My great grandfather was a Michael Higgins, son of Terence Higgins. Baptised in Castlegar in 1849. Moved to Queensland, married a Mary Comber. His son was Terence, his son was Terence Joseph, and one of his offspring was ME!

I am currently sitting in a room in a place called Drumcoura in Leitrim. Here for a further 2 days, then down to Dublin.

I will wait until I hear from you, then invite you to join my website online.

Warm regards
Terence (of course!) Darrell Higgins

Hello TD Higgins aka Darrell this is Grumpier aka cousin Judy from the south coast of NSW.
Hi Darrell I am afraid I have been very slack in my family research and have not done much at all for the past 12 months.  But if you are in Ireland I am sure that you can find out a lot more than I ever could. You mentioned that you have a website,  I would love to see it.  Enjoy your holiday and hunting for our ancestors.

Cheers
Judy

Aaah, so sweet little Judy has got herself a new little nickname eh? But I shall try to keep referring to you as Judy. LOL.

I will send you an invite and link.

The most effective exercise I have been able to do here is to establish contacts with people who can help me in research. Going off to Dublin today for some 4 more days, then over to Ontario - which is where Kath is from.

Enjoy the website - for what it is so far anyway. LOL.

Warm regards
Darrell and Kath
