Sarah Jane McGinley - County Tyrone, Northern Ireland
« on: Friday 28 June 13 04:12 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I am looking for information on my great grandmother Sarah Jane McGinley. I do not know her birth date as all searches of the ireland census' have returned with nothing, so i imagine she was born after 1911. Sarah married Robert John Reid in about 1930, with Robert converting from Presbyterianism to Catholicism to be with her. Parentage and Birth/Death dates would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! :)

I think you may have no option but to get the marriage record, if married in Northern Ireland, then try GRONI.

There are possible candidates for the birth on familysearch, eg:

...but in truth, this is just guessing, I think the marriage record should be your next step.

If Sarah Jane married in 1930 she could have been born before 1911- perhaps the family weren't living in Ireland in 1911 or you just haven't found the family there yet.

Without her father's name/occupation, mother's name, birthdate/year or place it will be difficult to know if you do find the correct family so you really will need to get her marriage certificate for more details (remember that if she happens to be illegitimate then her father will probably not be listed).

One possibility is this Sarah Jane McGinley born in Tyrone but living in Belfast-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Antrim/Clifton/Chatham_Street/183726

Added- Chatham St. not longer shows on map of Belfast but was off Hooker Ave. which was off Crumlin Road (between Carlisle Circus & Ardoyne Rd.)- you can use old online directories such as this one to find locations in Belfast-http://www.lennonwylie.co.uk/BSD1910.htm

Interestingly, there's a Robert John Reid (family Presbyterian) whose father was from Co. Tyrone (and with an unusual occupation which she help IF this is the correct family) living in the same area in 1911- but all speculation until you get the marriage certificate.

Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi again,

i had been told previously that Sarahs fathers name/he was known as Mickey McGinley, though this still doesnt really help me much!

i had found the correct census for robert john reid, he is living in clogher with his father (also robert, a widower) and sisters as his mother died in childbirth. sadly though robert snr's occupation wasnt quite as interesting, he was just a farmer!
