The Hampshire Baptism Index has a baptism for a Thomas James-05 July 1829 at Long Sutton Hampshire son of Samuel & Mary-it notes "of Burril Berks"-cannot work out where Burril is !!

However another baptism in 1832 gives them as " of Burghfield Berks"

In 1851 he is at Longparish with parents Samuel & Mary age 21

A tree on Ancestry has Mary as Mary Stanley but there are no sources and another tree Panella as Panella Ayres but with no formal marriages it i not easy to verify

Having looked at the newspaper articles again there is mention of a daughter Jemima who was married to William James (not to get confused with her brother called William James).

Possible baptism -

William's trial was on 8 Nov 1882 for manslaughter (indicted for murder) at Southampton, Hampshire.

He received 20 years imprisonment.
