Bit of a puzzle ...
« on: Thursday 04 July 13 11:18 BST (UK) »
This is a snippet from my family tree. I'm trying to get back as far as I can on the Tindall side of the family.

They're from the Ellingham, North Sunderland, Bamburgh areas. I've been stuck for a while, but thought I'd made a breakthrough when I found the two of the grandchildren of Edward and Frances.

The second child, as you can see is: Edward Tindall Ferdinand Harbottle Hogg. A bit of a mouthful you will agree! The names Edward, Tindall and Hogg are straightforward enough. I'm thinking Harbottle may be the maiden name of his grandmother Frances. Looking on Familysearch the only Frances Harbottle I can find in the locale was born in 1704. Her daughter Frances was born in 1753, which would have made Frances Snr 49 years old when she had her. This would be surely too old.

The Ferdinand bit is the real puzzle. According to Familysearch there is no one in Northumberland between 1700 - 1800 with the surname Ferdinand.

There must be a family connection. As yet I've been unable to find it!

Was wondering if anyone had any thoughts or could see something obvious that I've missed.

Cheers all

Have you looked for Ferdinand as a first name rather than a surname?

Maybe he was named for  [Edward Tindall] and [Ferdinand Harbottle] ?
