Just go into link for civil registration index that I posted earlier, put in Crean (tick exact match box) then Finan for mother's surname and 3 results come up.

Thanks. Done it!!! That fits !

I think I found marriage. Margaret Finan June 1924 names on pages include a Stephen Crean.  But spelling of Castlerea different. It's Castlereagh is that a different place?

Wish I'd seen the earlier thread before I wasted my time searching for details which have already been posted last year  :-\

I will reply in order of replies  received.

Dathal:  Thank you yes those are John Josephs parents.

Conahy:  Thank you I understand now. That earlier thread got a bit out of hand with people having a go at each other!

Ashadowey:  Sorry I didn't mean to waste your time.  When I posted last year I was new to this and still am a bit!  But I didn't really understand answers  all I could see was a lot of bickering between chatters and I didn't know what to think.  I thought I had to start another thread.  It was never my intention to waste anyone's time.  The information you personally and everyone else  has given me has been a great help and more information than was in other thread.

Thanks for all your help as usual it is much appreciated,  perhaps I had better call it a day before I do something else wrong. :(

I have put together my findings. Stephen Crean b 1892 (father of John Joseph b 1928) on 1901 census living with parents John and Ann and 2 bothers in house of grandmother Bridget Crean age 69 so she born 1832' trying to find her husband and marriage, ? Crean. Also her maiden name. Been on lots Irish sites can't find anything. Thought census may help but believe only 1901 and 1911 are available. Bridget not on 1911 census so possibly died.

Have also looked for deaths of Stephen and Margaret-nothing. Marriage and deaths of John and Ann(his parents) -nothing.

Is Irish Research possible? I did so well with  first replies from this post, perhaps too well! Seem to have ground to a halt.

Any input will be gratefully received as always.

There are lots of online Irish resources (most of them free) and some of the information you are looking for will be quite easy to find. However, you also need to know what is and isn't available.

First off, civil registration of births, deaths & Catholic marriages started 1864 (from 1845 for non-Catholic marriages). The index (up to 1958) is online (free) at https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1408347
Using the index, this is a likely death for Bridget Crean in 1908-

There doesn't seem to be a death registration for Stephen Crane but perhaps he died after 1958 or outside Ireland.

Have a look at this topic for more information-
