Where was Thomas PINCHES born?
« on: Saturday 13 July 13 19:11 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

Although consistently stating he was born in Herefordshire, Thomas PINCHES gave a different town of birth on the three census listed below. I can’t find any of the places.
Could someone with local knowledge please suggest where he was born so that I can find him on earlier census.

1911 census – in Bridgnorth, Shropshire, age 66. Born in Dilton, Herefordshire.
1901 census – in Shifnal, Shropshire, age 54. Born in Dillon, Herefordshire.
1891 census - in Bridgnorth, Shropshire, age 44. Born in Chander, Herefordshire (my own transcript, from the fiche)

Thanks
Gwynne

Based on the 1851 census - HO107; Piece: 1979; Folio: 248; Page: 5

I'd say his PoB was DILWYN ..... which is in the Weobley Reg District

The house/street address is CHAD***

ackshirley I'd decided it was prob Dilwyn from REGINDEX listing as the only place in Herefordshire that began with DIL ... the 1851 was a nice find to support it, as he aint obvious later !

In 1851 there is a Thomas Pinches born about 1845 in Dilwyn parents Wiliam and Jane and siblings at Chadnor?? Cottage

By 1861 the family without Thomas  were living in Stottesdon Shropshire much nearer Bridgenorth with the remaining two children listed as born Dilling.   I suspect that Dillen/Dilton/Dilling could be all versions of the small village Dilwyn.  Thomas could have left the village when still young

Edit - Sorry post crossed  Lower Chadnor is south of Diwyn

Thank you everyone for your response.
Dilwyn would seem to be the answer.

It will be Monday before I can use the Library edition of Ance**** to follow this through.

Meanwhile, can anyone find Thomas PINCHES on the 1881 please? I'm using the cd's.
He married Elizabeth GWILT in June qtr 1882 Bridgnorth reg'n District so isn't any of the obvious matches who are already married in 1881.

Thanks
Gwynne

I can't see him definitely in 1881 or 1871, but when you visit the library and look at Anc.. have a look at one of the Pinches/ Perry family trees that has a lot of information on the family

Hello
I've just seen this post - Thomas was my great grandfather's brother - and when I started looking at the records I had problems because the birthplace of my great grandfather (Charles Edward - or sometimes Edward Charles) was shown as Nillion!  My Pinches family ended up in Penn, near Wolverhampton.
Kind regards
Valerie
