Eglesfield, Rutland
« on: Wednesday 24 July 13 20:24 BST (UK) »
I am looking for information about Hannah Eglesfield born c 1790 in ? Tolesthorpe ? Little Casterton Rutland. She married Thomas Swann in 1814 & had at least 1 child possibly more - William Swann 1827-1893. Hannah died in Ryhall Rutland in 1870. I have not yet been able to locate information on parents or siblings for Hannah. Can anyone help me please?
Thank you

Hi
As I have a Swann in a family I am researching I had a look for Hannah  on CD's that I have
I think she was probably born in Belmesthorpe which is near to Ryhall and Little Casterton- they probably did not have a church here so used Little Casterton (just a guess).

I have found her bp at Little Casterton 4/8/1790 . born 14/6 dau of Thomas & Elizabeth.
Her siblings appear to be:-
Thomas bp 24/4/1781
Joyce bp 20/5/1783 (what an unusual name for this time)
Francis bp 14/3/1785
Susannah 3/2/1787
John bp 30/1/1789
John bp 15/4/1792 bp privately
Maria bp 26/2/1796 bp privately b 8/11
All bp Little Casterton

Her ma to Thomas Swann is given as 19/4/1814 by Banns at L Casterton
Their children were:
William Swan bp 8/4/1827 at Ryhall
Maria Swan bp 5/2/1815 Ryhall  -  I cant find any others.

Hope this helps to progress.

I am descended from this couple through their grand-daughter Elizabeth Graham Swan, father William Swan, who married Edward Spencer., my grandfather being their son Richard Eglesfield Spencer, born in Croydon, Surrey in 1893 and died in 1972 in Scotland. I tried to contact Ellen Cadman several years ago who posted she knew a relative in Ryhall but received no reply. I see this message is quite old now but would be pleased to hear from any of the Spencer,  Swan or Eglesfield descendents.

I am also descended from Elizabeth Graham Swan & Edward Spencer through their daughter Ethel. I have Richard Eglesfield Spencer in my tree. It would be lovely to compare notes
Kind regards
Carole

Thank you so much for responding, researching for many years and unearthed a few mysteries - one involving Ethel, also brother, Bernard, who emigrated to Canada with no further contact. However, now his  grandson has been in touch with me. So very pleased to delve further into our Spencer clan with you.
