Hello there,

Can anyone tell me if they know a place called East Latting in Haddingtonshire?  It apears on the 1841 census of two of my ancestors?
Thanks,

Eileen Mcnaught

Hi Elaine,

Could it be East Linton, on the A1 outside of Haddington?

Hello Tom and Hibee,
Thanks for your answers.
It is definitely East then what looks like Latt  something, ending in g. It is scored through, so hard to read.

Iīve tried downloading it onto this note, but doesnīt seem to have worked. Not very good at these things. Oh - it has worked.   This is the page 1851, name Beaumont, George and Elizabeth.

Thanks again,   Eileen

Hi Eileen,

It is really horrible writing on George and Elizabeth's entries. The 1851 census is in Edinburgh, and they have given birthplace, and I wonder if it is the enumerators attempt at Haddingtonshire, East Lothian. I found their marriage on FreeReg dated 12 Nov 1837 at Haddington. George was a Slater.
In 1861, she Elizabeth is transcribed as Mrs Beaumont, aged 41 and birthplace "Berwick, North" , I suspect she is a widow now, she has children George 21 b Udenston (sic) Lanarkshire, E Beaumont 19, b Liberton, Lanarkshire,  John 10 b Glasgow and Robert 5 b Glasgow.

George Senior died on 24th Dec 1858 in 49 Thistle St, Glasgow. I have found his Death Certificate, his son George registered the death, he knew his Grandfather's name John, who was a Gardener but did not know his grandmother's name. Apparently buried in Southern Necropolis, Glasgow.

Good morning Tom,

Thanks a ton for all your info. I have been searching Scotlandīs People over three years, and they never came up with the marriage certificate.  I will try freereg myself. And yes, I do think they have made a mistake with East Lothian.  Spelling mistakes are quite common arenīt they?

Regards,    Eileen

Hi Eileen,

For some reason, I cannot find it either on SP. I will PM you the page I found on FreeReg, it doesn't give you much more info, apart from witness names.

Here is FreeReg link, but sometimes these change, and you can get different record.

Hello Tom,

Thank you very much.  I tried giving the details into SP, but they still didnīt come up with the document. Pity, as you know you can learn a lot from birth, marriage and death certs.

I have had a look into Freereg, and Iīm quite fascinated by all they have to offer.

Thanks again,    Eileen

Hi Eileen,

The marriage certificate would only have been an Old Parish Record (OPR) which would carry less information than the FreeReg, although extracted from same record. You may have got bride's father's name if you were lucky.

Yes , East Lothian is very good on FreeReg, I use it quite a lot.
