William H Glendenning & Florence Louisa Horn

Hi,

I have found the marriage record for William H Gledenning & Florence Louisa Horn in 1914 in Kent.
I haven't purchased the marriage certificate yet, but am wondering if anyone has any information on William H Glendenning?

From the death information, I believe he was born around 1878 but I don't have a birth record or location.  I think the middle name is Henry.

Would be grateful for any information

The only one on freebmd in the 1870's was in Stockton 1872

He could have been born in Scotland.  The Scottish 1881 has a William Glendenning b 1876 Greenock Renfrew - parents Alexander & Mary

You need the marriage cert to see who his father was

There are a few from the south of England (some saying born overseas), and I'm really not sure.

So I have invested my 9.25GBP and hopefully it shows something useful.

Would be pleased to hear from anyone with any information on this family.

The code for the marriage on the Kent Registation Services site T/34/3 is for marriages at St Peter, Broadstairs http://www.kent.gov.uk/KCC.ROIS.Web.Sites.Public/Pages/MarriageSearch.aspx

I have noted that there is a William Henry GLENDENNING listed with an occupation of "apartments" (holiday lets perhaps?) in a 1918 directory at 3 Percy Road, Broadstairs.

Emailing the Crematorium and Cemeteries department at Thanet Crematorium may be an idea to try and locate his (presuming 1921) burial http://www.thanet.gov.uk/community__living/deaths_funerals__cremations/cemeteries.aspx which could lead to a monumental inscription or even obituary in the local newspaper.

There is a birth for a Walker Henry Glendening in Kent in 1874 (note spelling)

He appears on censuses to 1911 - father also Walker H

No death or marriage for him under christian name Walker - just wondered if he became William

1911 - Glendenning

Hi All,

Well I bought the marriage certificate.  The father of William Henry Glendenning born around 1878, was William Henry Glendenning.  He is recorded as a cook and deceased.

So now to search the records to see if this fits.

Debbie.  I am new to this site as a result of seeing your post. 
As it happens, William Henry Glendenning and Florence Louisa Glendenning (ne Horn) are my paternal grandparents. 
William Henry died in 1921 (I believe) when my father was around 2 years old and nothing much was ever said about him when I was growing up.  Latterly I found out some snippets:
He is reputed to have gone to the Isle of Thanet, Kent, from Queensferry, near Edinburgh, with the company building the Isle of Thanet Tramway.  The Tramway was in service from 1901 to 1937 so he must have arrived in Kent in the late 1890s. 
He apparently met my grandmother as a result of her family's rights to a "flint road" off the Thanet coast, a useful base for the tram road.
William Henry's mother was Eliza Glendenning and it seems she died in around 1939; my own mother met her early in my parent's courtship.  Eliza's maiden name is believed to have been Usher and she may have been born around 1857. 
William Henry's father was also William Henry, believed to have been born around 1836 and dies while his son was still young.
I would be fascinated to learn of your connection and what more you have learned since the original post.

William Henry Glendenning married Florence Louisa Horn who would have been the great grand aunt of my husband.  There is a photo of Florence with her two children on my ancestry tree Edith Florence born 1916 and Harry Charles born 1919 (is this your father Ian?).

It is nice to put a bit more detail to the story.
