Citizenship Request Alfred John Reeves
« on: Monday 05 August 13 14:00 BST (UK) »
Hi I am looking for an image of Immigration request (Declaration of Intention) or any other documents relating to

Alfred John Reeves b 1892 Cam, Dursley England.
I have some info that says his Citizenship was on 20th May 1918 in Montgomery Alabama.

His wife was a Mary T (surname not yet know) - she was born in Akron, Ohio (1898)
They married abt 1920

They lived at 825 (Amherst ??)Street Akron, Ohio

I have them incoming to USA in Apr 1921 from England, this was probably not the first time that they came to USA as they were already married.

Not sure if they married in England or USA yet.

Any images or references relating to them would be wonderful,

Alfred is a brother of Ernest Reeves, who I know worked at the GYTR factory in Akron.

I suspect Alfred was in Akron for the same reason, and that is where he met Mary..

I am trying to put together how this group of my Reeves Family went from Gloucestershire to USA

Thank you for all help and information in advance

Colin

This appears to have his obituary:  http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=25370915

He shows up in a list of Ohio military men, which says he was born Dursley, England and enlisted 3 Jun. 1917.

A marriage record shows Alfred J. Reeves and Mary Lipps marrying on 12 Aug 1920 in Summit Co., Ohio.  Mary's address was 825 Amherst St.

His petition for naturalization said that he sailed from Liverpool on 20 May 1913 and entered the US by train from Montreal on 30 May 1913.  He was naturalized as a soldier.

Thank you for this wonderful information, is it possible to view these documents online?

I am now interested about him being naturalized as a soldier in 1913

This was before the outbreak of WW1 in Europe. Can we assume he was in the British Army in 1913?

His obituary is very useful as it completes his family for me, do we know when he moved away from Ohio,

I have also now found a Date and place of death for Mary?

Thank you again

No, he wasn't naturalized in 1913 - that's when he entered the US, according to his petition for naturalization from 1918.

The naturalization documents are only available online on subscription websites.  You can see links here:  http://www.germanroots.com/naturalization.html

The obituary says he moved to Florida from Akron 7 years before his death.

I now have an understanding of how the family established in Akron

Would be great to see the passport photograph of Alfred and Mary

Colin,   My name is Celia Mary Reeves McKinney; third child of five of Alfred John and Mary Lipps Reeves.  I have been intrigued and interested in your search for information regarding my father.
Perhaps I can fill in some of the blanks concerning his life in the USA.  My understanding of his military service is that he originally signed up in Cleveland, Ohio in the US Army with other friends of
British heritage.   He worked in a rubber factory in Akron, Ohio, but found that work too confining and became a carpenter.  He was a building contractor during the years of raising his family, and was owner and ran Reeves Lumber Company, Copley Road, Akron, Ohio until his retirement when he handed the business to his son, Arthur.  He remained semi-active in the company for several more years until moving to Stuart, Florida in 1978.  I would be happy to share any information still available to my three sisters and me if you would care to exchange email addresses.  Best wishes.
