Alfred John Reeves was my Grandfather.  My mother remembers him coming to the US when he was around 21.  He settled in Akron because friends he knew from the UK had settled in the area where he met his wife, Mary.

He served in the US Army during the war.  He died when I was in my early 20s.  He was a kind jovial presence.  He was a carpenter by training and eventually owned his own lumberyard.  At some point he accidentally sawed off the last knuckle or two of three fingers and used to delight in pretending he bit them off...much to the horror of youngsters around him.
