Mary Morris born 1866 marriage to Philip Morris (or Morris Philip) Merriman

Hello

I have just found a new bit of research on my family and see that my great great great aunt Mary Morris married into the Merriman family - I have the 1901 census where she is home in Warren with her mother ( Esther Morris) and her children Ashley and Muriel but there is no sign of her husband. She is listed as married, not widowed so I was wondering where he may be?

Also, she is listed as a 'rabbit merchant'.....any idea as to what that was?

I welcome any help to get me 'going' on this

well in 1911 she is down as widowed but interestingly she filled in the marriage section before it was crossed out and she put married 7 years  whereas the 2 children are 13 and 12

and here is morris Phillips merriman in 1901

 he is a boarder with Henry Thomas merriman (blacksmith) and wife anne and their 3 children.

Morris is married and a coal hewer and living in grove street, maesteg. morris and henry are born narbeth

Thank you for this info vronlady - much appreciated and this enlightens things a lot. I do have a marriage for Mary and Philip in 1896 so not sure why Mary put 7 years married in the 1911 census??

 Maybe  she got mixed  up    and  put the number of years she'd  been widowed  ?      The  census  form   must  have  been rather  complicated for some  people  ,  as  this was the  first time  they  had to fill it  in themselves rather  than    just   say the answers  for   the  enumerator  to fill in !
