You guys are great!
I just started to make some connections and you have managed to tie up many loose strings.
I also have found the Maxwell Tombstone and it also confirms many of the facts that you have found for me. I also found on the Armadale website a question from a lady living in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada who is originally from the UK and a Maxwell, she is also researching the family. I have sent her an email with much of the info you guys have provided. I believe she is my wife's second cousin.
Cheers,
Chris

Hi: I just happened to find this site when researching my grandfather.

My grandfather was George Niven Maxwell......born in Torpichen in 1874.  He immigrated to the U.S  (I do not know what year) and in 1909 his wife Isabella (Sharpe) Maxwell and daughter Barbara left Scotland and joined him. (Ship's name was "California" ).  In 1910 they left the U.S. and came to Canada to settle in Merritt B.C.  Four more children were born in Merritt...William, James, Douglas and Jessie.

I am trying to find the year that George left Scotland and immigrated to the U.S.  would you happen to have this info?

Hi MeKennedy,
I am not sure when George immigrated to the US, I'll ask my wife if she has any idea and I will have a look around the net. I know he left Scotland to mine in the Southern States and then came up to Canada to mine. George is my wife's great Grandfather.

Chris

Hi MeKennedy,
Just talked to my wife and she thinks roughly between 1903 and 1904. I will check familysearch and see if they have any records.

Thanks so much Chris......I will check as well.   I know he spent time in Arkansas working In the mines and also went to Australia to work in the mines there.  I only met him a few times so it is interesting to find out more about him.

Jimmie shaw.....Osoyoos?    Was his mother Barbara?    My parents took me to visit Jimmie when I was young.   I remember Auntie Barbara.  We often visited her in Penticton.

Yes, Jimmie was my wife's father, he was one of Barbara's children. He passed away in 1982.
The family still have the orchards in Osoyoos. Jimmies wife (*) still lives on the orchard at 87 years of age. My wife would like to know who you are, she thinks your one of her relatives in the states.
