Quirk/McCue-McHugh
« on: Thursday 08 August 13 22:59 BST (UK) »
I've recently turned up a baptism record of my GGF John Quirk with parents GGGF Patt Quirk and GGGM Eliza McHugh(McCue) in 1843 in the parish of St. Nicholas Combined N&E, Co. Galway.  Not sure where abouts this was  - was it in the middle of Galway town? Does anyone have a link to the Quirk or McHugh families from that time. Any info greatly appreciated.

This could be a complete red-herring and if so I apologise now!

I have a Rebecca Hurst in my family tree who married a Patrick Cassidy.  Patrick died in 1879 leaving Rebecca with several children to raise. On the 1891 census a Daniel McQue/McHugh/McCue is living with Rebecca.  The census states Daniel was born in Ireland.  They had a child - my grandfather who was baptised as Daniel Cassidy in 1890.

I have an 1881 census where Daniel Mc? is in Staffordshire jail - and a possible death for a Daniel Mc? in Yorkshire in Jul-Sept 1908.

There also several McQue/McHughes in Liverpool census forms.

Chances are slim -but you never know

Best of luck

Thanks for the response. The strongest of the possibilities so far is that the Quirk and McHugh families were from Loughrea - Griffiths has these family names living in adjacent streets and there are additional Quirk family forenames such as John, Michael and Denis. I can't find any marriage record and I have no other information about the McCues - so the search continues!
Good luck with your quest.
