Charles Trimnell, Upholsterer, Bath
« on: Saturday 10 August 13 16:36 BST (UK) »
Wonder if anyone has information on wife and children of Charles Trimnell/Trimnel, Upholsterer, Bath and later of Hilcott, Wilts.

He was bap. Bath Abbey 13/2/1752, son of Arthur Trimnell, Upholsterer, West-gate St, Bath and his 1st wife Mary (surname unknown - would like info on this marriage also which I can't find).

Charles died 9 Feb 1829 according to his will, which names the execurtix, his wife Elizabeth, living in Bathwick in 1841 census. It also mentions 3 children: 1) Sarah died 1827 who married Thomas Smith of Easterton, Wilts; 2) William; 3) Jane.

Can't find any more info on the wife or children, or his parents marriage.
There was also a C. Trimnell, Auctioneer, Westgate St, Bath in the 1796 directory. This must be the same Charles.

Any more info much appreciated.

Craig

Many thanks for that marriage info Claire. Looks like the one as their 1st child William was born in 1747.

Hi Craig. Not sure if you received my message, and being new at this rootschat site, have no idea how to negotiate my way around it. I had the impression you had answered me, but I have no idea how to access that answer. I am old, and not that computer literate.! Maybe this will do the trick.
Regards Rupert Bear. (Derek)

Hi Derek,
I did receive your personal message and many thanks for that. I did try to reply but not sure how successful I was either with that.
I would be very interested in your papers regarding the Trimnells and Sherston magna.
Are you actually selling them or could I purchase copies from you? How would you want to play it. My direct ancestors are Trimnells from Christian Malford and one of the sons married a daughter of the Rev Weeksy in the early 1700s, so I am very interested in these connections.
Best wishes,
Craig

Hi Craig,

It looks like our ancestors Charles Trimnell and James Sutherland (and his wife Maria Stafford) of Bath knew each other reasonably well.  While I can't offer any information on Charles's family I can alert you to some documents held at the Kew Archives relating to the suing in 1804 of Charles, James and Maria, by William Stafford and others.  This is followed by a resolution or such dated 1805.  I believe William Stafford was a relative of Maria's, possibly her brother as her father's name (he had already passed) was also William Stafford.  It might interest you to know that my ancestor James was also an upholsterer who became bankrupt in 1802, only one year after marrying Maria, and around the time of the birth of their first child.  Off the top of my head I also recall that Charles was somehow involved in the sale or dividing of the old William Stafford's estate after his death in 1792(?).  Unfortunately I haven't read the court related documents as I was quoted hundreds of dollars for them to be copied and sent to me, but I do wonder if Charles found himself being sued through helping my relatives through hard times.  I also wonder whether my James ended up working for Charles as I am unable to find any other records of him in business or otherwise.

I would love to read if you were aware of any of this or whether you have any other information that might help me in my family research.

With thanks,
Catherine.

I have come across this post after googling "Trimnell".

C. Trimnell of Westgate Street, Bath was the auctioneer of the goods of an ancestor of mine after his death - according to an item in the Bath Chronicle - in 1791.

I know this is a very very long shot - but do any records exist of his sales?

(Sometimes long shots work out!)

Many thanks
