john and susanah Jones or other spellings both born Hope, flintshire 1802
« on: Thursday 15 August 13 23:28 BST (UK) »
I have just traced relatives back 1802 Jones family from Hope and lived in Hawarden Flintshire. Their sons were Cornelious my relative,Luthe, Horatio and Silvanus.  These names are quite unusual and I wondered if maybe they had come from somewhere else. Hope is /was a very small place. Does anyone have any of these names in their family? Cornelious  married an Annie? born in 1843. He died in 1880 but Annie lived in Baguley  near Wythenshaw Cheshire with my G Grandad Arthur Maurice jones

Thank you :)

Well according to Trees on Ancestry you should really be spelling your G-Grandad's name correctly! They spell it as Arthur Morris Jones! The Morris is very significant because your Cornelius Jones married an Annie Morris in the Wolverhampton District of Staffordshire in the Apr/May/June quarter of 1865.The BMD reference is Volume 6b Page 576.

Hello....

I do not have this family in my tree, however.......

I notice in the 1861 census, that they have a 5 year old grandaughter living with them, Susannah Brookes, she was baptised on 29/11/1855 at Hope. Father was John, mother Matilda.

Matilda JONES was baptised 23/11/1834. Father was John, Mother Susannah....
Digging a little deeper, I found two more baptisms...

John JONES was baptised 4/5/1823 Father John, Mother Susannah
Susannah JONES was baptised 5/12/1824, Father John, Mother Susanna.
I am sure there will be more children between these births, and that of Cornelius in 1837

I found the marriage of John JONES to Susannah THOMAS which took place 12/12/1822
All the above events took place at Hope...

I hope this may help,
Kind Regards

JeannieR

Thank you Jeannie I am looking into this.I need a little help wit John and Susannahs occupations they are not clear on the census States John as collector of church rates and something else.I believed him to be a Farmer .Luther and Sulvanus are both quoted as farmers sons.I dont know if you are able to decipher it.Thanks again for your help. Helen

Looking at the 1851 census, when the family were at Bennetts House, Hawarden
John was described as "Manager of Wharf"

In 1861 , abode Pree Lane , Hawarden, He is a "Collector of Church rates, property and ?????,
but he was also a Farmer

1871 John was a "Farmer and Collector"

When Luther Frederick, was baptised 30/04/1842, he was a Farmer of Turnpike Gate, Hope
He was also described as a Farmer when Cornelius was baptised, 30/03/1837

So I think you can say, he was a Farmer

I think he died 1873, but with aname like John Jones, it is hard to be certain .

Best Wishes

JeannieR
