1750 OPR query
« on: Friday 16 August 13 15:54 BST (UK) »
It's been a while since i've lloked at any old documents. This is from a 1750 OPR.

I'm paraphrasing but John and Margaret was proclaimed for the third and last time being ?????(is this hence??) proclaimed this day because of the urgency of their ?????? (maybe affair)

Am i correct and if so what might the urgency have been? Child, illness??

Is the section after this connected or a different matter?

Thanks

It probably refers to the calling of Banns, and because of the urgency of their affairs was the third reading and was not made on the expected day. Banns were usually read “upon Three Sundays preceding Solemnization Marriage”.

I think the last section refers to a different matter.

"was proclaimed for the third and last time being twice proclaimed this day because of the urgency of their affair" .
They had already been proclaimed once, then twice on one day to meet the requirement for a proclamation to be made three times.

That's great, thanks guys.

I'd like to know if this was a regular thing being proclaimed twice on a day but i will start a new thread about this.
