Brew and Lewney/Looney families.
« on: Sunday 18 August 13 17:42 BST (UK) »
My 2x great grandmother, Mary Ann Brew, was born 1842 IOM, and married Charles Lawton in 1861 Liverpool, thereafter living in Liscard Wirral.
In the 1861 Census, before her marriage, she was living with the family of John Looney (b 1806 IOM) in Liscard Wirral. (I guess her mother's brother)
I have her parents as: Robert Brew/Ann Lewney - married IOM 1821 and her maternal grandparents as: James Lewney/Margaret Quayle - married IOM 1794

I'm at the beginning of a new line to search, appreciating that Brew & Lewney/Looney are not uncommon Manx names. I'm just posting this in the hope someone may be able to make a connection.

Thanks for reading this!

try http://www.isle-of-man.com/genealogy/messageboard/index.pl - Sue on that board has done a lot on the Brew name (all Island)  - two other researchers have done much work on the Looney clan (mostly Maughold/Lonan but also in Malew)
any thing with a Manx Connection

Many thanks for your interest and reply. I will post on the message board, when I can work out how to get a password! It looks a good key to the available on-line resources and I'm sure the knowledgeable contributors can point me in the right direction and right Brew/Looney family lines.

Thanks again for your advice - much appreciated.

you don't need a password unless you try to use a name 'registered' by another

Success!  I tried yesterday and was requested a password - I obviously chose a registered name!
Many thanks again.
