I am looking for information relating to William POTANGER. Born in 1754 in Westray.

In 1781, when William was 27, he married Mary COUPAR.
They had the following children ...
    i.  Jerome POTTINGER ()
  80   ii.  William POTTINGER, b.1772 (b.1772)
    iii.  Mary POTTINGER, b.1787 (b.1787)
    iv.  Christina POTTINGER (1790 - 1878)
    v.  James POTTINGER, b.1793 (1793 - 1869)
    vi.  Janet POTTINGER, b.1798 (1798 - 1843)

Any information relating to this family would be much appreciated!
Bossball.

Do you know the name of the house any of these lived in?  If so, I can probably get you photos/maps etc.  There is a book called "Fae Quoy tae Castle" which gives the history of all buildings in evidence in 2002 (including ruins).  Also are any descendants still on Westray, and/or when did the last ones move away.  That book is available from the Orcadian bookshop at £18 (think it is probably www.orcadian.co.uk, but search for Orcadian newspaper and you'll get it).

Just had a look at your photos and don't think I can add anything to that.  From the book "Fae Quoy tae Castle" (a book on the buildings of Westray put out by the Westray Buildings Preservation trust it says about North Ouseness: "The last occupants were Robert and Lizzie Pottinger and family.  They left probably in the late 1940's."

I have note of the descendants of the family, there are still Pottingers on Westray. I have parents for William as William Pottinger & Christian Davidson which would follow in family names down the generations.
I have a lot of information on Orkney North Isles particularly Westray but need information on Aberdeenshire, particularly Auchterless - Hall, Reid

Hi -  Betsy Pottinger was married to William Harcus from Swartmill who died age 41, they had three of a family but when Betsy died at Smitaldy age 63 her parents were registered as James Pottinger and Christina Drummond. We must be looking at a different James Pottinger?

Are you referring to William Pottinger in the employ of the Hudson bay Company?
If so, his younger brother George left Westray in the mid-1800s for Victoria on Vancouver Island Canada. His descendants live there still.
