Davis or Mairs of Warenpoint
« on: Wednesday 21 August 13 14:44 BST (UK) »
Looking for further information on the family of William Davis b ca 1790 schoolmaster of
Warrenpoint who emigrated as a Church of Ireland (and England) catechist and schoolmaster with his family and children to New South Wales in 1833.

Possibly he was related to Rev John Davis rector of Clonallan and Warrenpoint
who died in 1836. Also Rev James Davis and Rev John Davis both curates at Warrenpoint.

There is an outside chance William Davis may have been originally from Roscommon and one of his sons was born there but the rest of the children were baptised in Warrenpoint C of I
parish.

William's first wife Isabella Milsop probably from Portadown Armagh died young
and his second wife Sarah Mairs/Mayrs/Mayers bore several of his children and
went with him to Australia.

Anyone know of these families in Co Down?

Thanks !

I've been searching for them for 30 years and still no luck. I have not done a DNA test as I can't really understand the point. May I ask how you are descended from them - from which of their children? Feel free to PM me if you like.

My great grandmother is Rachel Davis, her parents were Johnathon Davis and Mary Ann Richards, his parents were Edward Davis and Lydia Piper, then William Davis and Sarah Mayer. I will let you know if our DNA turns anything up. My elderly 93 year old cousin just found out who his grandfather was with DNA we can cross our fingers, we might get lucky. Terri.  :)
