I have just seen this posting.

As their son, I can confirm that the tennis players in question were indeed John Felix Miley and Mary Josephine Miley. My father was a barrister and expert on town planning law. He was normally called "Jack", captained the Davis Cup Team and was a President of Fitzwilliam Tennis Club. My mother was normally called Una and was Una Minch before she was married. My father together with his brother Val won the Irish Open doubles championship and played at Wimbledon, but in those days tennis was of course an amateur sport, much less demanding than the tennis of now.

Their days of tennis "glory" happened before I was born in 1942.

Hello George Kildare
I am sure Newmark401 will be thrilled with confirmation of these details
From what I can gather many of the early tennis records show only initials for first names which can be confusing for married women where this may be either that of the husband or their own
Thank you for the update

I can't seem to be able to reply to the personal message about the relevant dates of birth of my father and uncle that I received from Newmark401. I don't seem to have permission to send personal messages.

I don't have the exact dates, only the years. My father, John Felix Miley (Jack) was born in 1886 and died in December 1966. My mother Mary Josephine Minch (Una) was born in 1900 and died in 1974. My uncle Val (Valentine Miley) was 2 years younger than my father, so he must have been born in 1888.

John Felix Miley and Jack Miley are the same. He was a Senior Counsel, legal advisor to the Department of Local Government and expert on town planning. He captained the Irish Davis Cup team, played at Wimbledon and was Irish Doubles tennis champion with his brother Val at Fitzwilliam.

He was indeed married to Mary Josephine (Una) Minch, who was also a tennis player and sportswoman. They lived for most of their married life at 49 Ailesbury Road.

I am George Miley, their son, born in 1942.

I just saw this web page.

John Felix Miley, alias Jack Miley was my father. Mary Josephine Miley nee Minch (Una) was my mother and were both champion tennis players before I was born in March 1942.

Jack was a barrister (Senior Counsel), legal advisor to the Department of Local Government and expert on town planning law. He died in 1966.
