Hi Linda, I did indeed manage to find the certificate, but I am not sure if it will help you.
Patrick Leahy age: Full, married Maggie Hoolihan aged 18.  Both were born in Fermoy, Co. Cork.  He was a shoemaker, she was a servant.  His father's name was John Leahy, a sieve maker, hers was Thomas Hoolihan, a labourer.  They were married on Saturday 28th November 1883 at the Roman catholic Chapel in Fermoy.
Using this informationI have found John Leahy, the sieve maker in various trade catalogues.  He appears to have had the following children:  Patrick (my g.grandfather) born 1866, John 1869, Michael 1873, Jeremiah 1874, Ellie 1878 and Ellen 1879.  The family appears to have been in Walshtownmore in Cork, which seems to be about 20 km SE of Fermoy. John was born about 1835, and married Hannora or Nora Donovan.  That, sadly is all I have - another brick wall reached.  Do let me know if any of this ties in with your family - I am not sure that my family had any links with Port  Talbot

Hi Anita, thankyou for your reply. With 2 Johns in Patrick's family, I don't think my John [1852-1906] is related, not closely anyway. Because of my pre-1871 brick wall, and the many John Leahys, I have started to identify the John Leahys who are not mine, hoping that the right John Leahy senior might eventually become obvious! I presume the John Leahy on familysearch who died in Fermoy,1889, born 1835, is your ancestor. Good luck with your brick wall. Regards, Linda [photo of some of the Leahy children born in India attached.]

Hi Linda,  I agree - I think that although they names are the same, and they come from the same place there appears to be no connection.  I will keep looking, and if I find anything else I will post it.  Anita

Hi Anita
I am writing on behalf of my cousin Gwen Mooney and hoping I can put you too in touch with each other. Gwen's grandparents were John Byrne & Mary Julia Leahy. Mary was a sister of your grandmother Ellen. Mary's parents were Patrick Leahy/Margaret Houlihan and Patrick's parents John Leahy/Mary Morrison. John & Mary were married 1923 in Fermoy, Co Cork.
Regards
Joan Earls
