Hi

The Faulkners from Carlow and Wicklow were originally from the North of Ireland. Hugh and Sam Faulkner were sons of William Faulkner of Cookstown, I think, who died 1781. They started a Beetling Mill at Wellbrooke which is now a working museum. Sam was a businessman in Dublin. and acquired a farm in Carlow and one in Wicklow. Hugh eventually moved to the farm in Carlow. His descendants lived in Carlow and Wicklow. There are relatives living in England now. Admiral Faulkner of HMS Edinburgh was a descendant. It was famously sunk circa 1943 with Russian gold on board.

HI,
Just wondering if anyone with Faulkner connections in Wicklow has come across an Ephraim Faulkner. I am researching the people that lived in the townland of Aghowle outside the village of Ashford and there were Faulkners living in that area from at least early 1800s. The name Ephraim passed down through several generations and was still there in 1901 and 1911 census. I have seen an Ephraim Faulkner recorded in the Powerscourt/Enniskerry area as well and assume they are connected. As it is an unusual name I imagine if it turns up in other Faulkner families it might mean they were connected.

Don't think this has been mentioned yet but PRONI have the Faulkner Papers in their collection and gives a sumary of the family -

Link is to an index of Carloviana Magazine. There are various articles about Faulkners starting in 1952. The magazine is not online but is in Carlow Library.

Thank you. I have read the Faulkner Papers held at Proni.  I am not in Ireland, so cannot get to any libraries or archives. I do appreciate all the help.
