Stedman military records etc
« on: Friday 06 September 13 05:36 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone...Im having trouble tracing my grandpa

Albert Stedman
B. 20Dec1888 Albury, Surrey
D. 1969 Windsor, Ontario Canada

Married Ada Elizabeth White (somewhere along the way her family name was changed to Goss)
in Ontario, Canada 1915

I am curious about a few things.  I see a census that lists him and his parents and siblings from 1891...but then in 1901 it looks like I see him alone at some kind of school for musicians in St Margaret, London, England (address says 75 1/2 Cobourg rd).  Curious if anyone knows what this place was. From that census I cant find anything until he gets married in 1915.  So, I am curious if he was in the British Military as it appears this school might have led to the military..and I am curious when he left UK for Canada as I cant find that either.

His father was John Thomas Stedman and mother was Emily Elizabeth Driver.

Thanks for any help/info you can give!

For the 1901 census, if you go back a few pages, you will see:

75 1/2 Cobourg Row, St Margaret, Westminster

Bond, Stephen H  Head  M  41  Superintendent School of Refuge  b Grunstone, Dorset
+ wife, schoolmaster, tailor, cook, porter(2), a Sister of Charity, a Diocesan Worker, and 27 inmates!
And 62 pupils - al training as musicians.

A bit of Googling reveals this to be The Newport Market Army Training School.
Originally in Greencoat Place.

"Newport Market Army Training School; 1863; 28-30, Greencoat Place (name of street changed), Westminster, S.W.; Eighty-six destitute boys are boarded, lodged, clothed, and trained for Army Band Boys."

Hello,
There's nothing showing on the flickr pages.  I'd love to see the photos so is there any other way of seeing them?
Regards,
